High Dynamic Range Images (HDRI) allow 3d modelers to use real world lighting to illuminate their scenes, allowing their 3d designs to achieve unsurpassed realism. Through special techniques of capturing a much greater dynamic range than with standard photography, these images can produce the entire range of light intensity found in real scenes. By using these images in your 3d scenes, you will find that the illumation, shadow casting, and reflections all combine to produce amazingly believable results.

HDR Mill offers High Dynamic Range Images in a format that permits both high quality rendering results, and relatively small download files. Each download includes:

  • 3000x1500 .hdr image (lighting & reflections)
  • 6000x3000 .jpg image (background/environment map)

These files are zipped and will require a compression package such as Winzip to access. Individual files range from 8Mb to 18Mb.

HDR files of up to 6000x3000 can be ordered by phone and shipped. Custom photography can be produced in resolutions of up to 18000x9000.

HDR Mill's HDRI maps are available in high resolution and are full spherical maps (latitude-longitude). The use of these maps is directly supported in the following applications: 3ds-max & Brazil r/s (Splutterfish), 3ds-max & finalRender (Cebas), Lightwave (version 6.0 and higher), Softimage|XSI, Maya & Mentalray, Vue 5 Esprit, Blender, Carrara 5, Form-Z (v5.5.1), Pixar RenderMan, Autodesk VIZ, 3ds-max & VRay, Cinema4D Version 8.1
